Jane in Amsterdam

Bilingual post

I have met Jane Murback via blogland years ago (yes, that kind of friendship happens more frequently than you can imagine and is incredible !). I have blogged about my visit to her in São Paulo. Now it was her time to visit the NL, yay !!

She stayed super central at the Ibis, next to the Centraal Station. Handy because she was coming by train from Paris with a friend  (and I from my village with a final stop at the Centraal Station). She is such an EASY person ! We just started chating as old friends the minute she entered in the hotel lobby - as if no time gap had ever existed.

The first evening we had dinner at Humphrey's.
First course, main course and dessert at a fixed price: 25 euros.

Jane had a chicory creamy soup with crostini blue cheese and pear.
She loved it.

My first: a Thai beef salad.
Main course: a veal stew for her friend Gris

My main: Shrimps and coquilles in soy sauce.
I found the portion small because I have a savoury tooth and I am not much a desserts person.
Jane had the risotto - which she found perfect (and  she being from São Paulo... well, this is a compliment for the cook at Humphrey's).

On Saturday we spend the whole day criss crossing Amsterdam on foot.
We visited, for example, the Bijenkorf (make up items on sale), the Begijnhof...

Below, a snapshot at the flowers market, on the water near the Munt Tower.
It is located between the Kalverstraat and the Koningsplein.

There is a canal cruise departing from the Holland Casino, 75 minutes at 15 euros per adult.
A must do ! But first we visited the Van Gogh museum. There is always a long queue, and it is always worthwhile. The museum shop is amazing, they bought some beautiful (paper) prints and I fell in love with some prints of Van Gogh on top quality canvas. (On a short note: lately, I've been ordering more and more some of my photos on canvas as well - I love the result, it's amazing ! And people are actually buying them, YAY !)

Hubby dropped the kids at his mother's and then joined us.
He is here with Jane's friend, Gris.
A trip to the Van Gogh museum is at 15eur per adult and you can combine it with the cruise tour for 27euros. Photos are forbidden inside the museum. :(
Above and below: some snapshops of the building around the canals. I took most of them from the boat and through the glass windows - therefore  some photos are  not of a good quality

We had dinner at a Spanish tapas restaurant called Granada at the Leidseplein. Unlimited tapas at 19,50 euros per person. The day couldn't be more perfect than that ! Before midnight we went back to the Centraal Station by tram and made an appointment to pick them up the following day (Sunday) at the hotel for a drive in the Dutch countryside.

More about Jane's adventures in the Netherlands and Paris? I guess she took hundreds of pics.
